All around me people are bemoaning the end of summer, which I get, I really do, we've had a great time playing outside, running around, getting wet in the paddling pool and just hanging around with friends, but I just don't like the sun, which makes it all a bit of a chore for me.
I'm much happier when the nights start to draw in, cosy evenings snuggled under duvets with hot chocolate, the smells and sounds of Halloween and Christmas. Hot soups in the slow cooker, all sitting together carving a pumpkin, gingerbread cakes in the oven. This, right now, is my favourite time of year.
I love waking up to a frost outside, feeling the crunching of yellow and orange leaves underfoot, collecting conkers and pinecones. The world just seems to come alive.
I can't think of anything better than trudging through a forest wrapped up wearing wellies. Jumping in the mud, little noses red from the cold, but with big smiles under woolly hats.
Another bonus of Autumn coming is that the kids start to sleep longer. Z especially has been waking very early over summer. We ended up getting a black out blind from Web-Blinds for him. It really helped actually, but actual darkness will be even better. We all need a bit longer in bed.
The of course after Autumn we have the run up to Christmas, maybe the first snow, Christmas plays at school, carol singing at church, Christmas cards through the door. What's not to love?
How about you? Are you a summer or a winter person?
We were sent a blind from Web Blinds free of charge.
