Driving happy ( or not )

We've had a few years where we've travelled over Christmas with the children and its been pretty stressful. If we had family in one place and could stay with one set of people it would be fine, but unfortunately we have family all over the place and trying to travel round to see them all is pretty hard with three small children.

So this year we stayed at home and had some family members stay with us, it was relatively calm and easy, although by the end of the week we were both pretty tired after doing most of the cooking and cleaning. The kids had a great time playing games, baking cakes, going for walks  and building LEGO with our guests though so it was all worth it.

I was just watching the new Carcraft advert and it made me smile, as the children look so happy in the car, I wonder why mine never do?

The last time we did a long trip both girls threw up all the way, it was horrendous, and not something I'm in a hurry to recreate. As soon as we arrived at the hotel we had to carry them both in covered in towels and ask for the car seat covers to be cleaned for us! Luckily after a shower they both felt much better and we had a lovely weekend, but it was possibly not worth the 4 hours in a car smelling of sick!

What did you do over Christmas? and how do you find travelling with small children?
