I always thought I'd be a cool parent, still up to date with current music, films and TV. Yet I find myself still listening to Bon Jovi from the 90s and watching 'The Gilmore Girls' on repeat. I'm not even up to date with the news from around the world.
I think it's a lack of time thing. I'm not really in the car long enough to listen to the radio, and can't concentrate on the kids if I have it on in the house. I can't watch the 'News' with the kids around because they would see things I don't want to explain to them yet. Then in the evening once I've managed to get the kids to bed, made dinner, written a blog post or two and checked Facebook I just want to veg out and watch something easy. I really must make more of an effort. I do want to be a cool Mum. I'll be logging onto StubHub before you know it and buying Justin Bieber tickets.
I'm hoping when the kids are a bit older, I'll have more time to rediscover music and films, so at least by the time they are teenagers I might be up to date again. I'm going to have a LOT of catching up to do.
I'm sure if I still commuted to work things would be different. When I commuted to London I would listen to music on the way in on the train, read a paper on the tube and then read a book on the way home. I can't even remember the last time I read a magazine, let alone an actual book. Of course if I spent less time on Facebook and Twitter I could probably read a lot of books! Perhaps I need to change my priorities.

trust me, once your kids turn 9 or 10 you'll be listening to all the 'in' music all of the time, through no choice of your own!

Ahhh I miss listening to music! And my OH is forever berating me for not knowing what's going on in the world! There's just not enough time is there?!
